A dental extraction is a procedure that removes a tooth and its roots from the jawbone socket. It’s usually performed by a general dentist, oral surgeon, or periodontist. Extractions are commonly performed for dental reasons like disease, trauma, or crowding.
They can also be performed for non-medical reasons like psychological, financial, religious, or cultural reasons.
There are two types of extractions:
Simple extraction: Removal of a visible tooth in the mouth.
Surgical extraction: A more complex procedure for teeth that are broken or impacted.
